[Generic 'PS3 is Dying' Metaphor Here]
It seems to be that time of the month again where it's the 'in' thing to say the PS3 is dying, or Sony sucks, or any variation and combination of the two.
For example, there is this article on CNN that says the PS3 is a sinking ship. He has three main points to his argument. Lets go through them shall we?
- That it's too expensive - true, but it's also value for money. It does need a price cut if Sony actually wants to compete - the general public don't care about value for money, the cheapest wins when the difference is £170. The Xbox 360 is only marginally cheaper when you add all the extras you would need to buy if you got the Arcade version, like the wifi adaptor, the Live subscription fee, etc.
- The PS3's big bonus is that it's a Blu-Ray player. Sure, but then he goes on to say that it's too bad people don't care about high def, to which I answer with the sales of The Dark Knight, a quarter of which are on Blu-Ray. Impressive for a format nobody cares about, eh? Then he says that it's hard to see the difference between a Blu-Ray and a DVD on a screen that's smaller than 50". That's just plain untrue. I have a 19" 1080i tv and can clearly see the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD, so either this guy is talking crap or he simply has pickled onions instead of eyes.
- Then he says the PS3 has no must-have games. Yes, it does. Uncharted, Resistance 2, Motorstorm, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet - oh wait, he said LittleBigPlanet isn't a game-changer. Which it is, the community aspect itself is going to be all over the place (and there has apparently already been something similar in Guitar Hero: World Tour for sharing forms, according to reviews I've seen). And that out social networking program, Home, that's still in beta and is still undergoing server stress tests isn't a game-changer either. It's not supposed to be a game-changer, it's supposed to be a social networking program, for meeting with people before you jump directly into a game, or before you go and play pool...you get the idea.
So, after an analysis of this article, I conclude that the author knows nothing about games and shouldn't be writing about them, if writing about anything at all. You, sir, do not understand the PS3 and shouldn't be writing about it in such a way, so please, stop. You're just embarrassing yourself.

i think that gamers fighting over what console is better is completely stupid. i own a wii and a ps3 the only reason i do not have a 360 is because i don't have the money to throw away on a system that has more bugs than a two dollar whore. the xbox was plagued with bugs and now the 360. my hats off to microsoft though for selling millions of units that are piles of crap. now there is buzz on the net about a new xbox. already. come on people wake up. microsoft needs blu ray but their pride will get in there way and force consumers to trade their consoles in every four years. i had xbox and i sold it because there was no games that i cared for halo typical fps just like and other on the ps3. there will never be a halo killer because its fps.all fps are the same the only thing that changes is the story. the wii on the other hand is not even this gen it last gen and its a kids toy. i bought for 2 and 4 year old and i play it rarely for zelda. as far as i'm concerned my ps3 was worth every penny i paid and i bought it when it was 600. its still the best blu ray player and in my opinion its the best gaming system. another thing the reason the 360 is out pacing the ps3 in sales is because it came out like over a year earlier. microsoft keeps dropping the price because they know their system needs to be replaced with something ps3 equilavent. hence why there making the '720' or 'phoenix' or whatever fag name they can think of but it will not cange the fact that microsoft puts out over priced pieces of shit.

Amaranthium: Not once did my article say that the PS3 is doing very well. It IS doing better than it has been, though, and how well it does each year has increased year by year since release.
The fact that the 360 is still in such close competition with the PS3 despite a year's head start and such...questionable early support is a testament to the PS3's strength, though.
OMG, fanboyism in journalism breeds fanboyism in responses. As always the truth is somewhere in between the two articles. The PS3 isn't doing all that well yet but neither did the Xbox the first year or so. History will hopefully show these lost fanatics the light after they have lived it.

The capacities of PS3 might be superior to the XBox360 but the devolepers just develop for the slowest of the two and dont want to invest to make it better on the PS3. Sony has to invest in exclusives just because those games can show the real power of the PS3. Killzone II has to be an example of what the PS3 is capable of. If it isn't, the superiority in performance of the PS3 is only a unproven theory.
Wow, I'm glad all of you are against the "XBOX fanboys", I think the strength lies in the fact you are clearly unbiased and not at all the exact equivalent.
I own the 3 consoles, and yes, the 360 is my primary games machine still - for a few simple reasons - 99% of cross format games are better on the 360, XBOX360 exclusives are more plentiful and again, generally preferable to me and (until my xbox live stopped working) I prefer the online experience.
However, there is another side to this, and the main reason I'm an occasional article writer on this site -- The PS3 a better machine. Build quality is incredible (I have been through the RROD nightmare), the features are vastly superior, the almost silent running is a blessing compared the wind turbine of the 360, and though the recent Home debacle lessens my point slightly (if your Euro account can't log in, just create a US account, mine works every time), you can tell however, that the Sony are forward looking when they developing updates, some of the exclusives are brilliant - Uncharted was my fave game for a long time.
So, my conclusion? First of all, stop all your silly little fanboy yammerings, on both sides it currently boils down to better games vs better machine so get over it - to highlight how pathetic fanboy ranting and swearing is, I bet everyone one of you who got worked up are under 18 - and if you arent, you should be ashamed of yourselves. The PS3 is better, in so many ways, I absolutely love mine, but Sony need to shape up - you can't keep saying "next year will be the year of the PS3" year after year - if THIS year was supposd to be "the year of the PS3", how can one have real faith that next year will be?

I think theres some kind of microsoft viral campain going on to run down what they know is a flat better product then what they have. i have seen way 2 many negative revews of the ps3 4 the last 2 months and all are based on the same faulty facts and some outright lies but the person makeing a buyers decison would not know is false so what im sayin is microsoft is payin for bad reviews for the ps3 so they can sell more xbox crap so bad ps3 review=xbox ad

It's really pathetic how desperate some of theese Microsoft fanboys are, they'll do anything to distract themselves from the fact that their console has a 33% failure rate and no games.
The Xbox 360 is an outdated piece of junk which does not have the quality of software to warrant a high price tag (Hence why Microsoft were FORCED to cut the price in September just to get a few off the shelves).
The PS3 had more quality games released in 2008 and since Microsoft has NOHTING ANNOUNCED for 2009 i don't see that changing.
The fact that Sony have been able to shift close to 20 million units so far with their high price tag is incredible. If the 3 - fix - me cost £299.99 do you really think it would have even sold 2 million??? Not with the second - hand quality games that console has.
Every 360 exclusive so far has been completely overshadowed by it's PS3 counterpart:
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune > Gears Of War/2
Folklore > Fable 2
Metal Gear Solid 4 > Halo 3
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue > Forza Motorsport 2
See a pattern emerging? Also, GT5 Prologue was barely even a demo of what's to come in 2009 (Yet it was still better than anything on offer on the 360).
The Xbox 360 was getting completely DESTROYED in sales up until the price cut (Further proving my theory that the 360's games are not NEARLY good enough quality to warrant a high price tag) and even after the price cut the 360 still owns barely single - digit market share in Japan (They're probably closer to 0.00000078% market share).
The fact that the Xbox 360 has last - gen hardware is really hurting it, if/when the PS3 gets a price cut next year, it will be game over and Microsoft will lose biliions MORE dollars on another crappy product.
Xbox 360 fanboys are just desperate to try and validate their purchase of a last - gen console with no games coming out, a 33% failure rate and a garbage online service they expect you to pay money for, i'm surprised Microsoft are even contemplating another Xbox console (720??? WTF?!). Do they really want to financially cripple themselves on another epicly failed venture into the gaming sector???

me likey. Everyone seems to only concentrate on the ps3 when you really have to consider that only with requard to gaming, Sony has the PS3, PS2, and PSP that are all still selling. I dont know why everyone thinks that xbox is doing so well, when they are already talking about a new Xbox in development, and anyone whose been around long enough knows that that means XBOX360 will go the way of the dinosaur in the next two years! Whereas the PS2 is still selling well after being on the market for 8 years.

Anyway, the fact that you said "you judge what people care about from 1 or two big name blu ray releases" is so fucking hypocritical - if I ask almost any 360 owner to name 2 or 3 good exclusives, it's the same every time: Halo, Gears of War and Fable (used to be Bioshock, mind). However, go and ask a PS3-owning friend which 3 exclusives come out on top, and you get a huge variation: MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, Motorstorm, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, any of the PixelJunk games, WipEout HD, Buzz (admittedly, these people are slightly crazy), SingStar or WarHawk, to name but a few...
Add on the fact that this is a Blu-Ray player, which has been mentioned COUNTLESS times, and you've got yourself a good deal. Free online? Why not, Sony are too kind. :)
On top of all this, the Playstation Store is so much easier to access than the Xbox Marketplace, with better titles and more DLC for exclusives and you've already got yourself a good deal. THEN, look at the movie rental service, which is so handy when you've got a bunch of mates round and you want to watch something once.
Now, how about your criticising of PlayStation Home? Admittedly, it's just an average service, but it has future potential for what you can do. But the biggest point about this one is that the Microsoft-equivalent service - Avatar - is embarrassing!
Fair enough about the price - but if you want an Xbox, connected online, with a comparable hard-drive (aka, the Elite) then you have to pay around £280, just £20 less than a PS3 with an extra controller, 2 free games, an HDMI cable, and £20 worth of Blockbuster vouchers - and you need to pay the yearly fee to stay online!
Plus, the PS3's potential is still being unlocked - the Xbox is at it's peak, whilst the PS3 has about 60% under its bonnet! Along with the PS3's exclusive line-up, which is formiddable: God of War III, GT5, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2, LA Noire, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Uncharted 2 - as well as PSN titles Fl0wer, Fat Princess and many more - this coming year is looking like the year of PS3.

It's either arrogance or complete stupidity for you kids to keep supporting microsoft. the 360 is holding developers back from actually making better games on ps3. All they do is build the game for 360 and then try to port the game to ps3. Most 360 games are availiable on pc, which destroys all consoles. I don't even why you kids still decide to support a last gen system with a faliure rate of 33.3%. I guess you just couldn't talk your parents into forking over $400, so you conned them into paying $300 multiple times. Keep harrasing ps3. I can guarantee it will come out on top. 360's innovations are just about obsolete, the console is maxed out, and we're still waiting to see what the ps3 is actually capable of
