The last few weeks have been full of rumours in regards to the possible discontinuation of 80GB SKU from retailers worldwide. Today, GameStop reveals some concrete information which will hopefully bring this whole convoluted mess to a close.
Gamestop held a company-wide conference call today to discuss the matter directly. The call confirmed that Sony will be discontinuing the 80GB model. Speculation suggests that a 120GB (or possibly more) model will eventually be made available. However, Sony have yet to openly confirm any actual plans to discontinue the 80GB, which is making the facts a lot more complicated than they really need to be.
There’s no news yet as to when this upgraded version will be made available to retailers and consumers alike, though it’s seeming increasingly likely that the new SKU will include the highly anticipated DualShock 3. The DualShock 3 is currently only available in Japan, so this will mark it as a worldwide release.
More solid information is expected at the Games Developer Conference, but we’ll let you know of something more substantial breaks beforehand.
