Firmware Update – 2.35 (not what you’re thinking)

Sony’s official Playstation blog has released news of the latest firmware update for PS3.  Before I go into what the update is I should start by telling you what it isn’t. This is not in-game XMB – lest we get our hopes up once again. Neither is this a fix for those unlucky gamers who are having GTA IV issues.

To quote Playstation Network Operations Director, Eric Lempel: 2.35 is a “relatively minor update to improve stability of some PS3 titles”. Apparently a fix for GTA-related problems has been identified. If you’re experiencing problems you need to contact SCEA or SCEE Customer Services for help.

Maybe 2.50 will give us what we’re after. Then again…

  1. I heard it supports games like oblivon, duno if its true or not

  2. How about Home? When is that going to happen? Playstyation had better ramp up their LIVE cause Xbox Live is awesome enought to bring players back to Xbox 360. With Call of Duty on Xbox Live, everyone has a headset … on PSN, you may find two people in a room of 10 who can communicate. That’s just weak. And games like Hotshots that almost demand the ability to talk (it’s what you do when you play golf) doesn’t even offer voice communication … great game but a huge mistake. Too bad.

  3. Home is coming Fall 08, barring any more delays.

Lets not forget, Xbox live is a pay service, PSN is free. Ill take a slightly suckier version if its free. Besides, I dont see the appeal.

I can game online, and it doesnt cost me a dime more than what I paid for my PS3.

  4. Fifty dollars a year for Xbox Live (less than the price of a single new release) is well worth the robust online and communications features. I would gladly pay PSN the same price for the same features. There is no real comparison to the ability to communicate with the other gamers you are playing with. PS3 continues to be a great single player system. Since I have both the Xbox 360 and a PS3 (and a PSP), to me, the only real difference is the online. I know that each system has exclusive games but I am covered there. I have both COD4 and (had) GTA4 for both systems and the graphics aren’t noticeably different. It really boils down to your enjoyment of playing online. If online is “not your thing” then it won’t make any difference.

  5. I think the PSN is progressing nicely, considering Xbox Live had a 4 year head start. Its just like the game situation with the PS3 and the 360, which is just not starting to even up a little bit between both systems.

You dont get perfection right away. Personally, ps3 online works fine for me. I dont really have the need to talk to people so I can hear some snot nosed brat screaming at me after he’s killed me once, even after Ive killed him 10 times. What the chat function is used for and what it should be used for are two different things.

It should be used for collaborating with your team, or talking about the game, not screaming and acting like an ass to someone you dont even know.
