Exclusive PS3 content for Red Dead Redemption revealed

Red Dead Redemption

Hold on to your (cowboy) hats boys and girls! It was revealed yesterday that PS3 owners will be getting two pieces of exclusive content for Rockstar's upcoming western game, Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar - best-known for the hugely successful Grand Theft Auto series - has given PlayStation 3 owners the chance to customise their character's appearance with the Walton Gang outfit, and hang out in the Solomon's Folly Gang Hideout whilst you're at it. Both of these additions will be included in the game box as a code, redeemable on the PlayStation Store.

The Walton Gang outfit allows you to dress John Marston, your character in Redemption, in high quality threads which include a top hat, a shirt and a suit. The outfit differs vastly from his standard rugged look, and although every version of the game contains costume customisation only the PS3 one will let y'all dress up all fancy! Yeehaw!

It's unclear exactly what the Solomon's Folly hideout consists of, but this news of console-exclusive content may swing software sales in Sony's direction. After all, everyone's a sucker for bonus content, right? The game has also been receiving extremely positive reviews, garnering itself 9.75/10 from Game Informer and even scoring a perfect 10 in this month's issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

Get ready to saddle up as Red Dead Redemption rides into town on May 18th in the US, arriving three days later for the rest of the world, and keep your eyes peeled for our review of the game during the next couple of weeks.

To be quite honest, if you clock up the numbers, you will see that the premium does seem worth it. But the key thing is that we are just going by assumptions and not knowing the exact details. Plus there's always a chance that the PSN games they offer won't always the ones we like to have. In that it's really a question of who is willing to fork out the money. However though I do like the fact that we get to listen to music in-game which for me is something I always like to do.

@ Nik Dee

Darren's right, this supposed Premium PSN (which is as of yet unconfirmed) is entirely optional, not forcing you to pay for online... and if it does come, then they've said it'll offer up a Spotify-esque music player to listen to in-game AND it will offer a free PSN game every month, from a choice of 3-4. The payment for Live is simply to allow you to play online, it's quite a different concept.

@ Nik Dee:
If you knew anything at all, you'd know the Premium PSN is optional. Your comment? Fails.

@Anti-Flame

PSN will soon be 'paid for' - then your argument fails !!!

Live is FAR superior than PSN and always will be.

Oh look, Rockstar is joining in on the Project Ten Dollar bullshit. Only difference is, they didn't include a $10 buyin for those who don't buy new.

@shaddam
I honestly couldn't say. I assume that it'd be included from the off, so the Limited Edition will probably include it too, but I can't say for sure so your guess is as good as mine...

@John
Fair enough, Live is probably a better service in terms of community (the lack of cross-game chat is PSN's biggest flaw in my opinion). However, it probably explains why Xbox owners have to pay for their Live accounts...
Even so, I reckon this knowledge of exclusive content for Sony could cause an increase in game sales for the PS3 over the Xbox for other users undecided between which version to buy!

Well, it's not enough of an incentive to get me to get the PS3 version. Don't get me wrong I love my PS3, but for games that have a lot of online content, I get the Xbox version. I think the PS3 is superior to the Xbox in every way except when playing online.

does Marston get down with miss katie the barmaid in the
stable just on the other side of the blacksmiths shop down
there a piece ? and it's so real that we get a disease ?

just wondering ? your friend Sean Devlin
