EA announces Ferrari Racing Series DLC for Need for Speed: Shift
After an eight year hiatus, Ferrari is returning to the Need for Speed series for the first time since 2002’s PlayStation 2 hit Hot Pursuit 2.
We think the Ferrari Racing Series DLC, only available for Need for Speed: Shift, will be an add-on fans of the legendary automaker won’t want to miss, as it promises a fast and fun ride you won’t need to empty your life savings to afford.
From February 16th you’ll get the chance to burn some serious rubber behind the wheel of ten of the fastest and most beautiful sports cars on the planet: modern classics like the F430 and 599 GTB Fioriano, race-bred monsters such as the F50 GT and F430 GTC, and the Italian stallion’s most recent triumph, the California. The full Ferrari Racing Series car list is as follows:
- Ferrari 430 Scuderia
- Ferrari 599 GTB Fioriano
- Ferrari California
- Ferrari F50 GT
- Ferrari F430 Challenge
- Ferrari F430 GTC
- Ferrari F430 Spider
- Ferrari FXX
- Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M
- Ferrari Superamerica
What’s more, as a special bonus, downloading the Ferrari Racing Series will earn you a fresh set of racing events that pit you against other Ferraris to determine which one of these elegant Italian thoroughbreds is the best. The events included are:
- Ferrari Race Exhibition: four single race events
- Ferrari Time Challenge – Hot Lap: four single time attack events.
- Ferrari Mixed Track Competition: four series events consisting of two races at multi-layout tracks.
- Ferrari Time Challenge – Time Attack: four single time attack events.
- Ferrari Series Competition: three series events consisting of five races.
- Ferrari Eliminator Competition: four eliminator based events (2 lap eliminator and 2 timed eliminator races).
- Ferrari Endurance Competition: two single endurance events.
- Ferrari World Tour: a single race series consisting of five races.
There is one small bit of bad news, however. At present the DLC is planned only for the Xbox 360 version of the title, which is unfortunate for us black box owners, but that’s not to say it’ll never go multiplatform.
Don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted on any future information which may provide a change to the exclusiveness of this downloadable content.

… so isn’t this Xbox news rather than PS3 news if the DLC is Xbox-exclusive?
I don’t really care i wasn’t very impressed with shift or pretty much anything after carbon if it weren’t for grid or paradise city i would have never played a racing game again hopefully the EA/Criterion need for speed title works out well
I posted this to give some insight on what the future holds, the exclusiveness may or may not be a time sensitive feature as what other ‘exclusives’ of the past have been.
@antman- Personally, I found shift to be more enjoyable than any other racing games due to the sense of speed achieved, as well as a more realistic handling compared to the other comparative games which are, or are to be released. Its a shame you did not enjoy the game as such, the Criterion project will hopefully bring the series back to a more arcade feel. Suggestions for ideas are always welcome to be shared, as information brought to be is discussed at future Community Days.
Ok, that’s fair. I was just disappointed when I read there is no sign of it coming to PS3 – sounded pretty cool up until then.
As for Antman217’s comments, Shift was ok, but I’d choose Burnout, Grid or Dirt over any racer – that is until Criterion finish the new NFS. I have a feeling they will revive the franchise.
