We don’t know about the rest of you, but ever since experiencing the excellence of Codemasters’ Colin McRae: Dirt back in 2007 we’ve been pining for a sequel.

Race Driver Grid more than adequately filled this void, delivering high-speed thrills, gorgeous visuals, and an online mode that to this day remains addictive. Sadly, recent title Fuel, in an effort to challenge the MotorStorm series, fell on its face somewhat with clumsy handling, chunky graphics, and a free roam interface that was just too free.

The good news is that Colin McRae: Dirt 2 is scheduled for release on September 11th, so we won’t have to wait much longer. The even better news is that, according to a Senior Writer’s preview at TheSixthAxis, it’s going to be fantastic: tight responsive controls, beautiful graphics, a variety of racing disciplines and, direct from RDG, you’ve guessed it: the return of the innovative Flashback feature.

From what we’ve read, it looks like Codemasters are on to a guaranteed win here.
