Circuit City on Sun. began offering in-store customers a free Sixaxis controller with the purchase of Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 video game console.

In the Memorial Day weekend circular, the retailer began offering the free controller, a $49.99 value, to customers to promote the newest Playstation system.

The promotion is the latest retail effort to boost slowing sales of the console, which has fallen behind sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 in the latest figures for the North American video game market.
