Earlier this year, A 45 nanometer cell processor was conceived by Sony, and the company plans to include it in PlayStation 3 SKUs sometime in 2009.
So what does all that mean, exactly? A smaller chip equals reduced production costs, and cheaper production costs = a potential PS3 price cut. By reducing the size of the chip from 65nm to 45nm, power consumption has also been reduced by almost 40%. Good news for for your wallet, and your electricity bill!
Encouraging news indeed.
