Sony's Wand May or May not be Called the Sphere

'May or may not' isn't the most definitive term on the planet, but that's because this isn't a definite thing, so keep this firmly lodged under 'rumour' for now. Now, onto the subject at hand; Joystiq are reporting that Sony are calling their motion control, which doesn't have an official name nor codename as of yet (though we like to call it the Wand), the 'Sphere' when discussing it with their developer buddies.

Obviously, the idea of the rumoured codename revolves around the glowing sphere at the top of the Wand, which is, well, it's a glowing sphere, we can't really explain the codename any more than that. The codename comes from Sega publisher Yasuhito Baba, who, along with his translator, called the motion controller Sphere during an interview at TGS. Joystiq have chatted with a few Sony reps, all of whom claimed that they have no knowledge of the nickname, which keeps this news post firmly under rumour for now.

PSN Down During Sony's GamesCom Conference

PSN is going to be down during Sony's conference today at GamesCom (6pm if you live in England). Obviously, Sony have given the usual reason, saying it's 'scheduled maintenance', but with this 'scheduled maintenance' falling dead on top of their conference, it's going to take a lot more than that to convince us that it's not a little bit more than that.

What do we think? Well, we think - nay, hope - that it's video store finally making it's way over to the EU territories. Or maybe a firmware update. It could be anything, really, so we're going to shape our fingers into the letters 'E' and 'U' and leave it at that. Feel free to make your own predictions in the comments below.

We Will be Twittering Sony's E3 Conference (and the Others)

Update: We're going to be twittering all three conferences, now, instead of just Sony's. About 3 hours 25 minutes left until Microsoft's, make sure you at my Twitter on time!
