Socom 4 delayed till 2011

Are you staring at the headline in disbelief? We are sad to say that Socom 4 will not be arriving this year, and has been pushed back to early 2011. Were you look forward to playing Socom 4 this year? During our hands-on time with Socom 4 at E3, this title seemed to be well on track for release this year.

Jeremy Dunham, Senior Community Manager at Zipper Interactive writes, "While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that."

A little extra time never hurts, and it's a shame Socom: Confrontation didn't get some extra time as well.

Zipper Interactive "MAG" Open Beta servers online 01/04/10 - 01/10/10

Sony and Zipper Interactive (Socom Series) have announced the beta drop date for their massive 256 player "Online Only" multiplayer military war zone game MAG of January 4th, and that it will be active for only 7 days, concluding January 10th at 23:59 Pacific Standard Time. You may download the client game through PSN now, however, Sony has made it quite clear that you will not actually enter the game until the beta servers open.

Socom Confrontation Gets Patch 1.6

In spite of all it's problems, Socom: Confrontation is getting patched to version 1.6. For those that still play, this should be a welcome addition to a online experience that has been hampered with technical issues."We are happy to announce that Patch 1.6 will be available for download tomorrow, December 10th at 2am PST (5am EST, 4am CST, 3am MST, 10am GMT, 7pm JST). Please note that the server will not be available during the update but should be available within 1 hour of the release time.". As a special bonus, the patch also includes some DLC, perhaps as a token of peace to the fans. I can't imagine, they are thrilled to patch Socom: Confronation again. A list of the the DLC, and updates can be found below.

MAG is an 'Iteration of Socom'

SCEA's markets boss, John Koller, has said that the brilliantly titles Massive Action Game will be an iteration of Socom when talking to VG247 at GDC last week. He also mentioned that it is a '256 online-player game which is spectacular.' Pretty words. He also said this;

“If you look at that competitively, it’s something that’s only possible on PS3. The processor speed, the ability of PS3 to showcase 256 players at any given time, and their actions.”

I'm not sure how trustworthy he is, though, since he's the marketing boss of SCEA and it's his job to say this kind of thing, but, you know, 256 players. Read more »
