Backwards Compatibility Plans Laid to Rest

John Koller, Sony’s Director of Hardware Marketing, has been kind enough to address a number of frequently-asked questions that have passed gamers’ lips of late (concentrating on the approaching PS3 Slim, unsurprisingly) in an interview with Ars Technica

We’ll leave you to have a read for yourselves, rather than detail Koller’s words in full here. However, we’re sorry to say that it looks like plans to incorporate backwards compatibility with PS2 titles have been abandoned, for good:

‘It's not coming back, so let me put that on the table [...] It's not as big a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing [...] We've got such a substantial line-up of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games.’

EU LBP Game of the Year Edition? 'No Plans'

Sam_Protagonist has posted to the Official EU Playstation Forums saying that there are 'no plans' for a release of the Game of the Year Edition of LittleBigPlanet in the EU, TSA has noticed.. Whether or not this means we won't get the 18 unique levels or the beta access to Modnation Racers or not is yet to be seen, but this is still a blow to us poor EU dwellers.

'No plans' doesn't mean 'never ever', though, so maybe if you look cute enough it'll happen at some point. Get those puppy-dog eyes and pouts ready.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 DLC Plans Revealed

Publishing CEO at Activision, Mike Griffith, has stated in a recent conference call with MTV Multiplayer that there are already plans to release two map pack DLC packages for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Griffith believes:

‘Map packs help extend the shelf life of the franchise, as evidence by the strong catalog sales and premium pricing that we maintained a year and a half after launch.’

Furthermore, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager Robert Bowling has explained in an email to MTVM that community feedback will shape how the game is supported. If the first two confirmed map packs are well received by gamers, it’s likely additional content will follow.

Well, that makes perfect business sense to us.

'No Plans' for a FFXIII Demo Outside of Japan

PS3Fanboy are the bearers of bad news, Square Enix have said "at present the FINAL FANTASY XIII demo will only be available in Japan with the Blu Ray release of Advent Children Complete, but we hope to have further news in the coming months." This means that there are currently 'no plans' for a demo of Final Fantasy XIII outside of Japan.

The demo will be bundled with the Advent Children blu-ray and won't be available by any other (legal) means. However, this doesn't mean there won't be one, it just means they haven't planned one yet. You could always import it anyway.
