If we were to tell you that Fumito Ueda, Head of Team Ico, was a closet Half-Life 2 fan, would you be surprised? We certainly were…

It turns out that, in an interview with G4TV, the creator behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and upcoming PS3 exclusive The Last Guardian, is interested in developing a first-person game - possibly a FPS:

'Usually, you have to incorporate storytelling with constraints, but the way [Half-Life developer Valve] implemented constraints was something different that I enjoyed, compared to other games [...] I have an interest in making first-person games.'

At the moment, that’s all we know, but doesn't that sliver of information warrant even a little early excitement? No? Well never mind, Modern Warfare 2 launches in 35 days time. Feeling better? We thought you might be.

The Last Guardian Goes to TGS

The Last Guardian Banner

It's been confirmed that The Last Guardian (the next game by Team Ico, the brilliant guys behind Ico (obviously) and Shadow of the Colossus) will be at Tokyo Game Show in some form. If you haven't seen it, or just want to gaze upon it's majesty once more, you can see the E3 trailer for The Last Guardian here - in HD, no less. We won't embed it, we want to encourage watching it in HD, it's excellent.

E3 2009: Trico is "The Last Guardian"

A new trailer from Fumito Ueda's new game was revealed during Sony's E3 press conference. The working title "Trico" has now been changed to "The Last Guardian", but nothing new in regards to story or setting has been revealed.

The trailer was the same trailer we've seen previously, the little boy running around with a monster companion, solving various puzzling situations.

The difference between the two trailers was the fact that this one had been given a massive visual overhall, sporting redefined textures and better lighting. In short, it looked absolutely beautiful, if just a bit too bright.

Michael cried though, so at least he's satisfied.
