
You may or may not be aware that Infinity Ward has released a new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 entitled ‘Infamy’, a term traditionally defining notoriety gained from a negative incident or reputation. Naturally the trailer embodies the word, portraying an attack on Washington DC executed by rival forces that sees the iconic American location burned to the ground.
Though the footage is intended solely to flaunt Modern Warfare 2’s atmospheric narrative and graphical excellence (which is does, commendably), some are finding it hard to ignore its contemporary connotations. It has already been suggested that the video might motivate a boycott against the game and its developer.
Now, our intention is not to enter into a political debate, but rather say that we sincerely hope those offended can overlook the provocative undertones and appreciate Infinity Ward’s game trailer for what it is: evidence to suggest that this could be the greatest, most incredible FPS experience ever. And that’s all.
