July NPD Sales Results - PS3 Wipes Floor with Own Head

The NPD results for July are in and, well, it isn't good for anything that isn't either Nintendo or NCAA Football. The only console that sold less than the PS3 in America during July this year was the PS2, whilst the PSP sold 1k more than the PS3 and everything else doing much better. The 360 sold 80k more than the PS3, with the Wii scoring another 50k on top of that and, as usual, the DS got around 280k more than the Wii did.

So the PS3 lost when it comes to hardware, but what about software? Well, there are only three entries in the top 10 games sales that aren't on a Nintendo console, NCAA Football 10 twice (once for PS3 - third in the top ten, once for the 360 - in second) and Fight Night Round 4 for the 360 at number 8. The rest of the board features Nintendo console games, both DS and Wii, with every Wii game there using a mandatory peripheral. Excellent.

Lost Planet 2 Demo Heading to PS3

Capcom confirmed at E3 that the PS3 will be getting a demo of Lost Planet 2 at some point. They never mentioned when we'll be getting it, but it's nice to know that we will. The 360 and PC are already planned to get a demo. There was a demo shown at E3 which allowed up to 4 players to team up and battle a very large beastie, but we don't know if that's the one that'll be released to us. We can still hope, though, because that sounds great.

The release date of the game itself is a little hazy, some sources say it'll release on 360 and PC this year and on PS3 in Spring, some say it's a simultaneous release this year and yet more say it's a simultaneous release in Spring. 

We don't know, but when we do, so will you. If you like shooting very large aliens in the glowy bits, this is the game to watch. Whilst you're waiting, you could go and buy the original, it's presumably very cheap now.  Read more »
