Sony has officially confirmed that firmware version 3.50 will be arriving on September 21st. This latest firmware update will allow for the viewing of 3D Blu-Ray movies to your PS3. Other details are slim at the moment, however it has just been revealed that it will also improve Facebook functionality, and allow for the reporting of unwanted messages.

Firmware update 3.42 is available to download, however those expecting any significant changes will be disappointed. This latest firmware is no doubt in response to the security threats posed by the latest PlayStation 3 mod that was released a few weeks ago.

John Koller, Director of Hardware and Marketing writes: "Hi everyone! A minor update to your PS3 system is now available via system software update v3.42 that includes additional security features. Sorry guys, but this isn’t an early April Fools prank. As Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold writes on the US PlayStation Blog, firmware update 3.21, released on April 1st, will disable the ‘Install Other OS’ feature currently available on PS3 systems. Why? Because of security concerns on Sony's part.
