Whilst Square Enix said they won't be bringing the blu-ray demo of FFXIII to the west, they meant the 'blu-ray' part rather than the demo. They're checking the possibility of bringing it as a downloadable, which will surely make a large chunk of the PS3-owning population very happy indeed.

Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the game, told VideoGamer:

The type of demo version we released in Japan, we currently have no plan of doing that abroad, partly because we are going to carry on with the project alongside the Xbox version, so we really can't just make it available only for the PS3.

But we hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West, so that is a possibility we would like to check.

Japan are going to get a special edition 160gb PS3 with a Cloud Wolf logo, a copy of the FF VII: Advent Children Complete blu-ray and the FFXIII demo for ¥49,980 (about £380). Lucky buggers. Don't expect this to leave Japan, at least not for a long time, we're not even getting the demo yet. Go to VG247 for a picture of the fancy Cloud Wolf-branded PS3.

PS3Fanboy are the bearers of bad news, Square Enix have said "at present the FINAL FANTASY XIII demo will only be available in Japan with the Blu Ray release of Advent Children Complete, but we hope to have further news in the coming months." This means that there are currently 'no plans' for a demo of Final Fantasy XIII outside of Japan.

The demo will be bundled with the Advent Children blu-ray and won't be available by any other (legal) means. However, this doesn't mean there won't be one, it just means they haven't planned one yet. You could always import it anyway.
