District 9 Blu-ray Disc to include God of War III Playable Demo

It may not be the most logical or predictable combination, but the Blu-ray edition of Neill Blomkamp’s movie District 9 (due for release December 29th) will include an exclusive PS3 playable demo of God of War III built into the disc.

Peter Dille, SCEA’s Senior VP of Marketing and PlayStation Network, explains the thinking behind this:

‘Blu-ray functionality has long been a differentiator that separates the PS3 from other home entertainment systems [...] through this collaboration with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment we're able to create a unique experience only available on the PS3 system that blends two of the most popular entertainment options available, watching District 9 and playing God of War III off the same disc.’

Whether gamers will be prepared to fork out a hefty $39.95 (no EU or UK details as of yet, we’re afraid) just to get an early hands-on of Krato’s forthcoming gore-fest remains to be seen, though you can be certain that PS3 owners attracted by films which tackle the issues xenophobia and social segregation within extraterrestrial contexts will definitely be getting their money’s worth.

Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition: Physical Disc, or DLC? You Decide

resident evil 5

Following the announcement of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom is reaching out the PS3 community to ask how the new content included in Japan’s physical package (Biohazard 5: Alternative Edition) should be made available to those inhabiting the EU and North America.

It goes without saying that a brand new disc, bundling together the original game, Jill’s supplementary sub-mission, and motion control functionality for the PS3 wand (or Sphere) into one neatly boxed item, would be ideal for RE5 newcomers. On the other hand, given the convenience and immediacy that downloadable content offers, providing Alternative Edition’s goodies on the PlayStation Store might be more appealing – certainly to gamers who already own a copy of the best-selling title in Capcom’s survival horror series.

What will it be: a blu-ray disc or DLC? At the end of the day, it’s all about having your say. You can cast your vote via a dedicated poll page (registration / log in required) during the next few weeks. An official decision from the Resident Evil development team can be expected shortly after the results have been collated and reviewed.
