Now, onto the subject at hand; Joystiq are reporting that Sony are calling their motion control, which doesn't have an official name nor codename as of yet (though we like to call it the Wand), the 'Sphere' when discussing it with their developer buddies.

Obviously, the idea of the rumoured codename revolves around the glowing sphere at the top of the Wand, which is, well, it's a glowing sphere, we can't really explain the codename any more than that. The codename comes from Sega publisher Yasuhito Baba, who, along with his translator, called the motion controller Sphere during an interview at TGS. Joystiq have chatted with a few Sony reps, all of whom claimed that they have no knowledge of the nickname, which keeps this news post firmly under rumour for now.
