Agent, Rockstar's PS3 exclusive espionage game that you mustn't confuse with the MMO FPS The Agency, is set for release next year, Or so Rockstar says in response to a question from a particularly miffed PS3er, anyway. Whilst the question was technically incorrect (GTA didn't originate on Playstation, it released on PC simultaneously), the person was essentially asking whether or not the GTA IV expansions were coming to PS3.

Whilst the nice Rockstar people didn't say it would be, they did reassure us that they haven't forgotten about the PS3, with games such as Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption and, of course Agent, all releasing next year.

They also said that there's more that hasn't been announced yet. What could that be? Well we don't know, as it hasn't been announced yet.

The official site for Agent has gone live. There's nothing there, just the logo, 'coming soon' and the usual logos, but you might want to keep your eye on it. Elsewhere in Agentland, you can go read what Ben Feder said about the game here.

Yes, I am padding this post. Today is a slow news day.

Yeah, they're pretty vague statements, but Take-Two's Ben Feder has said to Eurogamer that Agent, Rockstar's mysterious PS3 exclusive based around espionage in the 1970s, is going to 'fresh', 'worth waiting for' and a 'completely different' is many ways.

Ben Feder: It's a completely different storyline, there is completely different character development. It's a game about espionage, set in the 1970s. GTA is obviously more about an urban experience, a typically rags to riches experience. Very, very different storylines, very different character development. It's going to be very fresh for gamers.

So, a completely different storyline and character development, based around espionage and set in the 1970s. We're no long sure that this will include any pimps at some point. It's Rockstar, it's exclusive and it's new - it can't possibly be bad.

Agent is PS3 Exclusive because it will 'Help Launch' the Franchise

Ben Feder, that's the big boss man of Take Two, has given his reasons for announcing Agent as a PS3 exclusive at E3. He said to Gamespot on the E3 showfloor:

“The trade-offs a publisher will typically make is, if you’re platform-agnostic, you get a larger installed base, you’re platform exclusive when you get the right kind of support from first parties.”

So they're doing it for the same support they got with GTA III back on the PS2, because the exclusivity can help launch a new franchise. Good stuff. Read more »
