Portal 2 coming to PlayStation 3

At Sony’s E3 press conference, Valve announced that they will be bringing their upcoming first-person puzzle game, Portal 2, to the PlayStation 3. This was an announcement that few people expected, because for a long time Valve has avoided development on PS3, meaning that we've missed out on great games such as the Left 4 Dead series. However, that all appears to be changing now because Valve has apparently teamed up with Sony to get Portal 2 up and running on the PS3 - “the best version on any console” according to Valve’s Gabe Newell. Ladies and gentlemen, it appears that the PS3 is the developers' console of choice at E3 after an incredible press conference for Sony revealed many exclusive downloads for Playstation owners for multiple AAA titles, such as Medal of Honor and Dead Space 2.

Valve finally developing games for PS3?

When the Orange Box was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, PlayStation gamers felt like they got ‘the short end of the stick’, as Valve's PS3 version of the package was far inferior in various respects - in fact, it is believed Valve eventually cast off the project to some EA studio to finish.

The salt in the wound was Valve's president voicing his preference for Xbox over PlayStation, and not surprisingly Left 4 Dead came to exist as a 360 exclusive. Getting an idea as to why PS3 owners are a little upset with the developer? Well now change is in the air, as Valve is looking into the possibility of doing some work on the mighty PS3.

Valve Looking to Assemble a Talented PS3 Team

Whilst Valve have previously criticised the console for it's architecture, now they're just saying that they need new people to code for it. Talking to Joystiq at a Left 4 Dead 2, Doug Lombardi said;

'we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well.'

Nice of them to see sense - ignoring a market so large would be a stupid mistake. So could this mean Left 4 Dead 2 PS3? Well, probably not, though we suppose a late port could be possible. Left 4 Dead 3 PS3, however, is much more likely.

Left 4 Dead 2 On PS3?

According to EA's official site, a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead 2 is slated for a Fall 2009 release. Could EA be porting the game over to the PS3? It seems rather strange that only weeks after E3 there would be such a big mistake on the official site.

However, take this news with a grain of salt. It is most likely just a mistake, but, you know. If only. Let us know what you think in the comment section. Do you care? Is it something you would like to see on the PS3? We will keep you posted on any developments.
