This game is perhaps one that has received the most hype of the year so far. Not only that, this game has a big expectation to deliver what the Final Fantasy series has established over two decades. This would mean that our little Blu-ray disc should be packed to brim with sprawling worlds and diverse towns and [...]

War: what is it good for? Well, in the case of 2008’s FPS Battlefield: Bad Company, war presented the perfect opportunity for four expendable soldiers to abandon their official duties in favour of stealing gold from a foreign military. While on paper this makes for an intriguing shooter, Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment’s title lacked substance, remembered [...]

Having played through and reviewed Battle of Forli, the somewhat underwhelming add-on for Ubisoft’s historical sandbox epic Assassin’s Creed II, I admittedly had reservations about Bonfire of the Vanities, the second promised piece of DLC for this title. Still, it would have been unfair of me to overlook the thirteenth chapter of Ezio Auditore da [...]

The original BioShock is widely revered for its story telling mastery. Not only did it prove that it’s possible for a video game to feature a plot every bit as engaging as its film and literature counterparts, it also introduced gamers to one of the most unique and twisted worlds around: Rapture. Arguably the star of the show, Andrew Ryan’s [...]

Dragon Age: Origins is an excellent step forward, however it fails to be a bold leap forward for western role-playing games. Bioware over the years has nearly perfected storytelling, as well as offering solid game-play. Dragon Age: Origins is hailed as the spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate series, one of my all time favorite [...]

After being impressed with the demo I was looking forward to playing Brutal Legend. I like Jack Black and the music tracklist for the game looked great – Brutal Legend truly is a homage to the Metal genre. The game tells the story of Eddie Riggs (Black), a roadie who finds himself in a mystical [...]

The Italian Renaissance was a pivotal historical moment, a time of rebirth, enlightenment and inspiration that emerged from what Renaissance humanists labelled the Dark Ages. More relevantly it is the setting for Assassin’s Creed II, a continuation of the struggle between the liberty-seeking Assassins and the oppressive Templars. The appeal of the original Assassin’s Creed [...]

‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. I for one am a great believer in this particular cliché. Sure, whatever ‘it’ might be could over time undergo the odd tweak or two, but ‘it’ remains largely unchanged. Now, consider Insomniac’s solid, compelling and rewarding Ratchet and Clank franchise in place of ‘it’. The first ever [...]

The PS3 releases this month have been as strong as ever, and fortunately the great games are still flooding in for Christmas time. This month’s OPM reviews the greatly anticipated Italian stealth simulator, FIFA’s ugly sister, the epitome of the PlayStation fighting genre, a game where you ferociously make flailing arm movements at your TV to cater for your “virtual pet” (yeah right, you crazy man) and many more. Hit the jump for the latest scores.

Uncharted 2 has a lot to live up to. From the legions of fans frothing at the mouth to the reputation left behind by Nathan Drake’s first outing two years ago, whichever way you looked at it, Naughty Dog had to pull out all the stops to even consider besting their previous treasure-hunting adventure.
It’s probably [...]

It was inevitable that members of the biggest superhero collective in history, the Marvel Universe, would feature in video games. In recent years particularly, developer Raven Software has produced two excellent X-Men Legends titles followed by Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, a one-of-a-kind cooperative action RPG experience amassing 20+ iconic characters that was well-received by next-gen gamers [...]

There are many reasons why we should all be grateful for the 1980s: radical social, economic and political change; the revolution of the fashion industry; the invention of the Rubik’s Cube; George Lucas’ Star Wars; Madonna. For me, the mention of the 80s brings to mind Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. [...]
