Ode to the PS3 Calendar Bug

There probably isn’t a soul alive who doesn’t know about the PlayStation 3 ’calendar bug’, a plague of error code 8001050F messages that has been sweeping PS3s internationally for the last 24 hours.

UPDATED: PSN experiences blackout

For the past couple hours, Sony’s PlayStation Network has been bombarding users with ‘8001050F’ error codes. This error not only locks users out of the PSN, but it also corrupts trophy data and paid DLC content. These things, when combined, cause certain games to lock up.

Sony Updates PSN with Free Movie

A few days ago, Sony accidentally updated the PSN with a free movie – Armored. This would be embarrassing under normal circumstances in which a movie had been available for some time. Armored, mediocre as it may be, is still showing in some theaters. That’s right. Sony put a movie on the PSN for free while [...]

Error Code [80022A07], anyone? Just install Firmware 3.10

Firmware 3.10 went live earlier today, bringing with it Facebook integration facilities, a colour palette for your gamercard, and a more convenient way to view and manage pictures and photographs. However, nothing was mentioned about the return of error code [80022A07].
For anyone who has yet to encounter error code [80022A07], this alphanumeric nuisance signifies a [...]

Strange Happenings on the PSN

The following information has been supplied to us by one of our loyal PS3Vault followers. Quite frankly, we would be interested to know how many of you experienced the same phenomenon as he (and allegedly many others) did.
At approximately 11:45pm EST (Eastern Standard Time) yesterday, a vast number of PS3 Accounts fell inactive, presenting an ‘(8002A548)’ error [...]

Yellow Light of Death Causes and Fixes

Since we remarked on Friday’s BBC Watchdog feature that addressed PlayStation 3 fail rates, with reference to the Yellow Light of Death, we’ve received many comments and questions from site visitors via email, the PSN, and PS3Vault.com directly: what causes the Yellow Light of Death? How can it be fixed? Do we know of any preventative [...]

Watchdog’s PS3 Failure Rate Report Causes Controversy

Did any of you in the UK happen to watch yesterday evening’s Watchdog on BBC One? If not, you missed an interesting episode turned controversial gem.
A segment of last night’s broadcast was dedicated to the ‘Yellow Light of Death’, a term adopted by the PlayStation community whereby a system failure is indicated by the illumination [...]

Firmware 3.01 Has Arrived

Firmware 3.01 is live, and optional. To install, or not to install?
At present, is it not known whether all grievances regarding Firmware 3.0 have been addressed in this discretionary new patch, but we are hopeful that system stability has now been restored to the PS3. If in-game freezing and controller malfunction issues have been resolved, [...]

Firmware 3.0 Causing Controllers to Malfunction

Since its release earlier this week, Firmware 3.0 has become the new Marmite: some of us love it, some of us hate it.
The newest sore point, as noted on the official PlayStation 3 forum, relates to controller connectivity. Various models of Sony’s Sixth Axis wireless control pad – most notably the Ceramic White DualShock 3 [...]

PSN Gets…Chainmail?

Chainmail is something everybody either hates or should hate. It’s pointless, it’s stupid and it’s just generally a waste of time. There are absolutely no upsides to chainmail, no matter how profusely it may promise that sending it to 10 people will guarantee you getting laid the following night, it doesn’t happen. Believe us, we [...]

People get Yellow Lights, Blame Vidzone, Are Wrong

People have downloaded VidZone (why shouldn’t they? It’s impressively well done) and, after using it for a while and clicking one of the ads, which take you to the PSN store, have experienced a crash. After restarting, they have discovered that they have got the dreaded ‘yellow light of death’, which stops the PS3 from [...]
