A certain ‘games journalist’ (me - Gamoc) had his Playstation 3 die yesterday. It stopped reading disks of any kind. This was a bad thing, as it can not be fixed. So I took it back to Game (with the receipt) and they replaced it (unfortunately with a 40gb).

Thursday rolls around again and that means it’s time for a PSN update. Well, unless you’re of European extraction. In that case the term update acquires a strange new meaning whereby very little actually changes. A few things have turned up, don’t get me wrong, but it’s hardly stellar stuff…

Sony announced today that the UK PS3 community will be receiving a new system software update on Tuesday December 18th. The announcement was posted through Playstation UK’s system software updates page and details all the new features that will be added with this update.

“Starting last week, PS3 owners started reporting that their next gen console would not read their Blu-Ray discs. Some users reported that their PS3 would not even read DVD’s. All reports started to come in after gamers made the upgrade to 2.01.”

Notwithstanding the recent 1.93 update which basically fixed minor networking bugs, the future 1.94 release should include increased performance across a range of games.
