Buh Bye Six Axis, Hello DualShock!

We all love our SixAxis. It’s what we first used to clear the universe of grubs, mow down other drivers in MotorStorm and frag that annoying 3rd grader talking smack on Call of Duty 4. Well, it’s time to fall in love all over again. The SixAxis controller will be discontinued shortly after the DualShock 3 comes out this week. A Sony rep offered the following:

“Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it’s completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).”

Not only will we now be able to experience our games even better than before but, as the DS 3 becomes standard, used SixAxis controllers will become quite cheap on eBay and Craigslist, allowing us to hook up additional controllers for our PS3 deprived friends to use when they come over. Once you get your DualShock, please come back and tell us your thoughts.

(Editors update: GameStop has been selling the DS3 since April 3rd so head on over and pick one up. Let us know what you think!)

  1. That’s awesome,

I’m curious though, with the current sixaxis controllers, the battery life is amazing… is it gonna be the same with the Dual Shock 3???

That’s what I need to know before going out and buy me a DS3… since I already have 2 sixaxis controllers.

  2. Does this means theres going to be no more games with six axis controls, i loved some of the simple ways to use it especially in RFOM simply tilting the controller left or right would bring up your score or the map in an online game, and enchanted arms were you could simply flick the controller to drag yourself across a gorge or shake it crazily to do a funny dance and power up. I hope games are still made compatible itl be a shame if its abandoned

  3. Ive had one for ages, I live in the uk, had mine since beginning of feb, Baught it of ebay from japan. Yes they are better, Heavier, more stability and the vibration of course is awsome woo!!

    this is a must buy

  4. Obviously heavyer , and better built than the original controlers

  5. NOOOOOOO!!!!, now im going to have to go out and buy at least 5 more sixaxis before they stop selling them! i dont want some stupid gimicky rumble feature shortning the battery life and ruining the optimal weight of the sixaxis with stupid spinning pieces of lead… removing the cable and excess bagage was the best thing they ever did to improve on the ps2 and now they’re puting the weight back? would be fine if they kept selling the sixaxis but this is horrible news!

  6. does the DS3 still have the sixaxis tilting thing or what?

  7. Yes, the DualShock 3 stil has six axis controls, but it also has rumble.

  8. kwl thx

  9. Got my DS3 a few days ago and there is no noticeable difference in battery lifespan.

  10. The Dualshock controller also features the SixAxis, which is g8 as I love the suttle features in games. Is this release date the same for the UK (where I live)??

  11. Just played threw entire Metal Gear Solid 4 game with DS3 controller that came in bundle.

It took me 18 hours to beat the game and i did not have to plug the controller in at all threw out the whole game. Keep in mind it took me 3 days to beat so i am sure the controller retains some of its charge when it is turned off. Still a spectacular amount of time compared to what i am used to with 360 controller.
