Bond Inspired RPG “Alpha Protocol” Coming to PS3
“Excited, Very Excited” is the first phrase that comes to mind when we think of the upcoming James Bond inspired RPG coming to the PS3 from game developer Obsidian.
The creators behind Old Republic II for the Xbox will be returning with their latest creation in cooperation with publisher Sega. The game, tentatively titled Alpha Protocol, puts the player in the role of secret agent Michael Thornton. Game informer describes the game as follows:
“A modern day espionage focused action/RPG that takes you on a suspenseful ride in the vein of James Bond, Jack Bauer, and Jason Bourne. Take a wet-behind-the-ears greenhorn agent up through the ranks to become a bona-fide super spy,”
The game is obviously derived from the James Bond series of movies and books. However, the game mechanics are heavily influenced by Bioware’s Mass Effect. Alpha Protocol will feature a very similar dialog system to that found in Mass Effect, released this past year on the Xbox 360 (Editor’s note: Finally this technology will find it’s way onto a real platform). In addition, it appears that the main character will only be allowed to chat with third party characters once. He will be able to adopt one of several tones including impatient, furious, or the oh so James Bond style - charming.
The game will not have character classes per se but the player will have ten skill sets to advance as the game progresses. Alpha Protocol is expected to be released for the PS3, PC and XBox 360 in Spring of 2009. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
