Blu-ray takes big lead over HD-DVD

In a big win for Blu-ray camp, HD-DVD supporters conceded that Blu-ray players outsold HD-DVD players by margin of 5 to 1. This disparity is in large part due to PS3 sales since its November launch. However, HD-DVD supporters claimed that the software sales were even. By contrast, Blu-ray supporters reported that Blu-ray software outsold HD-DVD software by margin of 2 to 1 in the first week of January and 3 to 1 by the second week.
This news seems to be the start of Blu-ray victory over HD-DVD. With close to 2 million PS3s sold world wide and much more to come once Europeans get their hands on it, the margin of installed base will increase, not decrease. Unless HD-DVD pulls out a big surprise move, I highly doubt they can compete with Blu-ray at this point.
