Blu-ray movie disc to include smaller file!
Out of nowhere, Sony has announced that their Blu-ray movie disc will include smaller compressed files of the movie. This is the same company that included crazy copy protection on their music CDs. This move seems to be a move to bolster the Blu-ray format over the HD-DVD. Regardless of reason, this is great news for people wanting to watch their movies on their laptop, computer, or portable devices. Think of the possibility of transferring the movie from your PS3 to PSP without having to convert files or hook up cables!
Sony Pictures Entertainment will include portable files on Blu-Ray DVDs that can be transferred without a download, David Bishop, head of Sony’s home entertainment unit, said in an interview this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sony may add the feature this year, Bishop said. “It’s not currently part of anything on our current release schedule, but we’ll probably roll it out sometime this year,” Bishop said on Jan. 8.
