The Sony developed Blue-ray format and HD-DVD have been battling it out for a while now, but unfortunately for HD-DVD, its seems that the format is dominating the market by a unbreachable margin; Blu-ray is leading the pack with an astronomical 71% lead over HD-DVD.

According to figures from Nielson VideoScan, Blu-ray format was dominating the movie sales charts with a 71% to 29% split between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, for the week ending November 11th. The only HD-DVD title in the movie sales top ten was Transformers, at a generous 3rd place position.

HD-DVD’s support is mainly due to some high profile studios supporting the format exclusively, but as the sales divide between the two continues to widen, such exclusive deals will only last so long.

Without this studio support, it’s only a question of time.
