Batman's Latest Gadget is the Best DRM Ever
You know something's up when we're praising DRM. This is technically about the PC version of the game, not the PS3 version, but since the same game is on the PS3 and simply because this is the best DRM ever concieved by the minds of mortals, we thought we'd throw caution to the winds and let our metaphorical hair down and go for it anyway.
Eidos came up with an inventive way to screw pirates over in the PC version of Batman: Arkham Asylum. In fact, it is a trick worthy of the Joker himself; they disabled gliding. If you've played the game (and if you haven't, you definitely should), you'll know that gliding is an integral part of the gameplay, putting an unavoidable stopper onto your progression very early into the game. Instead, the caped crusader just tries to open his cape over and over again as he plummets to become a rather leathery pile on the ground. At least he looks cool whilst doing it.
As far as DRM goes, this is completely excellent, so we fully support it. Besides, it's better than certain other methods.

Haha, same - surely someone could just hack a purchased version and release that online, and let it spread way before Eidos would be able to catch it...? Unless it's like one of those paint-locked cash boxes that Securicar people carry around, so that if it gets hacked, the DRM gets unlocked, fucking anyone who attempts to glide? :p Now THAT'D be genius.
I'm curious as to how they actually did it.
holy cow....that's pretty nifty.
i wonder if the game will be hacked in the near future to allow the use of his cape for gliding...but for now, that's a nifty way to deter pirates. you will NOT get far in the game without gliding, lol
