Another PS3 Firmware Update on the way

The month of June will bring with it another PlayStation 3 firmware update, if Issue 45 of Official PlayStation Magazine is to be believed.

As per the passage photographed here, an update (presumably Firmware 3.40) will arrive next month to prepare our precious PS3s for 3D gaming. 3D Blu-Ray playback functionality will follow sometime afterwards, says Sony.

Naturally, this news calls into question whether the new firmware might also introduce the redesigned XMB everyone’s been talking about following Cheap Ass Gamer’s 'Techtonic Farts' podcast, during which presenter 'Cheapy D' announced:

“I’ve heard that the Sony PS3 is getting a completely redesigned Xross Media Bar. Like totally new, not just like new columns and stuff – like totally redone.”

Sounds, like, totally cool. 

Word is that Sony's E3 press conference will shed some informative light on the subject. In the meantime, we shall drop our contacts at SCEE a quick email to see if they’ll offer us some credible intelligence.

the day for me is gonna be when they deside to update their browser (cause it gets stuck ofter) ...update their adobe flashplayer (cause manytimes you cant access youtube and stuff).. give ps3 a FLV playtback capability by it self (i know you can stream FLV by pc) AND GOD PLEASE LET THEM MAKE PS3 OPEN PDF FILES FROM THE HARD DISK... i have GameGuides that i want to read on the spot before palying a game and not having to go to open my pc everytime i need to check something

Im not really to excited for 3D yet. Theres just no reason to get one right now. They're are so expensive and all there is to watch is Monsters vs. Aliens lol. Once i see a 3D game worth buying an expensive 3D tv for then i might think about it.

just get rid of all the redundant store icons and i'm happy with the xmb. a separate media server section would be nice too, so you don't have the same thing under photo, music, and video.

With all the lawsuits there might be a possibility to unlock other OS in the larger models again.

I think it might come out with the PS Move controller (guessing 4.0)
