A Complete Run-Down of the Batman: Arkham Asylum Content, Exclusive and Not

Batman Arkham Asylum Banner

We're looking forward to Batman: Arkham Asylum like it's going out of fashion. The demo is our collective most-played anything this week, with me personally having played it for hours at a time multiple times (and about to do so again), so it's obvious that we enjoy it. A lot.

If you're anywhere near as batty about the demo as we are, and are lurking in the shadows waiting for the game to wander past, you'll probably be wondering which version you want to glide kick into unconsciousness. There are three versions, after all - the PS3 version, the 360 version and the PC version. In an effort to help you out, we've listed the features of the game, including pre-order bonuses, platform-exclusives and just general information, after the break.

First, we'll list the general features and pre-order bonuses, so you know what you're getting regardless of what version you decide to jump on.

Standard Game Features

  • Pricing: Console Standard Editions: $60/£40, PC Standard Edition: $50/£25, PC Collector's Edition (EU only): £50, PS3/360 Collector's Editions: $100/£60.
  • The main game is about 12-15 hours long.
  • 16 challenge maps, 8 of which are combat and 8 of which are invisible predator (stealth).
  • The game plays at 720p.
  • After finishing the game you will be able to free roam around the asylum as much as you like, though enemies will not respawn. Power-ups unlocked in previous completed games will carry over to new games.
  • The Collector's Edition comes with a 14 inch Batarang (and stand) that's made from the same type of plastic as Lego. Also comes with a 42 page Arkham Doctors Journal (notes on Arkham's inmates), a behind-the-scenes DVD, a 'Crime Alley' map (available immediately) and a full colour manual.
  • DLC - there will be DLC for all version of the game, though we're not certain whether the DLC will be the same for all versions.
  • The Riddler has left 240 riddles around the Asylum, just waiting to be solved by some costume-wearing superhero.
  • The exclusive pre-order exclusive challenge map featuring the Scarecrow may be available to download a month after the game's release, but this is not definite yet.

Pre-Order Bonuses

  • Gamestop (America) - a download code for the Scarecrow challenge map, called 'Dem-bones'.
  • Amazon.com (America) - 'The Road to Arkham' comic book.
  • Walmart (America) - code for the Armoured Batsuit.
  • Play.com (UK) - code for the Armoured Batsuit.
  • Game.co.uk (UK) - download code for the Scarecrow challenge map.
  • GameStation (UK) - 'The Road to Arkham' comic book.
  • HMV.com (UK) - exclusive sleeve and Joker poster.
  • Amazon.co.uk (UK) - 6 character postcards.

PS3 Exclusive Features

  • Free DLC on August 25th - 8 challenge maps in which you play as the Joker that will never, ever be available for any other version of the game due to an exclusivity deal with Sony.
  • Playstation Home - Batman Arkham Asylum Batcave Outpost Apartment, which features the Batmobile, Batsuit, Batwing and other gadgets. This apartment will be free.
  • 'The Road to Arkham' comic book will be given to PSP users free, but will probably not be readable on your PS3.
  • Some elements of SixAxis control (though we don't know what these are or if they're optional).
  • 1.2gb install (5gb installs tend to take about 10 minutes, so that's about 2 minutes of install time).

PC Exclusive Features

  • Phys-X usage for those PC users with nVidia 8800+ cards.
  • Will be on both Steam and Games for Windows Live, with the latter possibly utilising SecuROM copy protection.

Xbox 360 Exclusive Features

  • None.
  • 60kb install.

You are assuming that the game is originally 720p, which is NOT.
The actual resolution of 360/PS3 games is way lower. Both consoles use hardware upscalers, it's just that the 360' s one is better.
Also, you should note that most crossplatform games have better textures and higher AA on 360, due to the larger amount of 2nd level cache memory.
I own both consoles, so i'm not fanboying 360. Actually i hate fanboys, that's why i'm posting FACTS, because i'm a little bit bored by all those PS3 fanboys saying 'PS3 is more powerful', 'PS3 has better graphics', etc. It has NOT.

@ klatu.
The game is the same on both consoles. which means that the 360 is also 720. however like alot of 360 game its upscaled to 1080 by the hardware.
Do you really think that the developers thought ' lets make the ps3 one in 720, that'll teach those sony basdards' ... no they thought lets make a game that'll work on both, it'll be a massive time saver'
Anyway high definition starts from 720. i have a 22" monitor that i use for my consoles and it works in 720 , still looks fantastic.

at some point will people understand that it doesnt matter which console you play it on, what matters is if its a good game. Or are we resided to having to read MY CONSOLE IS BETTER...NO MY CONSOLE IS BETTER on every game forum? how about this idea........

WE ARE INDIVIDUALS! WE HAVE OUR OWN OPINION, NOTHING YOU CAN SAY WILL EVER CHANGE THAT !

720p? Why not 1080? Oh yeah, Ps3 is native 720, what a waste. Too bad. Id rather have a full hd game than a shotty down-rezzed 720p one. You all can have the "joker" content cuz the jokes on you! (insert joker laugh...). I'd rather have an ACTUAL hi-definition game thank you.

@Troels - The Joker levels are not a timed exclusive, they will be released on PSN on the 25th for free and will not appear on any other versions of the game, ever.

@Luke - I meant we didn't know the extent of which the SixAxis would be used, we already knew about the gliding, just not if it would be used anywhere else.

My answer to "why not?!" would be that, considering the ressession especially, maybe £10 is a high price to pay for anything that "ends up being junk" nowadays? Didn't you say in another post you run your own business??

All joking aside though, we are positive the bonus content included in Arkham Asylum's special edition will be worth the investment.

Nice, I pre-ordered the special edition back in April - £50 is a bit extreme for me, but I thought, meh, £10 more for all that stuff, even if it ends up being junk, why not?!

Sixaxis steers you when you're gliding, and is optional. It's in the demo.
