I was glossing over an article about the ‘10 worst reasons to get a PS3′ (badly titled, because those reasons are the worst ever). 

I thought I’d share my thoughts with you guys, because as you can imagine, I have some views about this article too.

I’m going to clear one thing up, however. I am not saying the article is disastrous simply because he is criticising the PS3, far from it, everything deserves criticism, even the best of things. But everything he wrote seems to be self-absorbed drivel of the highest calibre, even the points he made were inaccurate. 

1. A £425 MMO

I’m going to go ahead and assume this ‘man’ hasn’t spent a lot of time on a PlayStation 3, yet he feels compelled to tell us that his PC is better because he can play Second Life. 

He also says there is no keyboard and asks how we could possibly communicate effectively. We talk. That’s right, old fashioned talking. The PlayStation is a gaming machine, typing while in a game is highly irritating and impractical. You use a Microphone, it’s more convenient.

He also looks out for us though. He doesn’t want us to get addicted because we all have no self control. Just because this guy got addicted (he mentions it), doesn’t mean we’re all dumb enough to. Though if you do get addicted, surely it proves how good the console is?

2. Easier to Get Hold of Than a Wii

Wait, that is what put me off buying a Wii. The fact I couldn’t get it. 

He says we can get a Wii and an Xbox cheaper. Well we can’t, and you can’t even get an Xbox cheaper in reality, unless you like playing with yourself offline with no updates or friends (and I can only assume this guy won’t have to worry about the latter). I don’t see Sony charging us to go online.

3. Another Reason To Buy HD TV

I’ve never heard anyone say “Get a PS3, then you can get a HD TV!”, but in any case, everyone will be using this eventually. If you can afford it, just get a HD TV. But you don’t NEED one, even for playing the PlayStation 3. Indeed, you don’t even need to be disappointed without a HD TV. Yet again, I wish he would make some valid points, I’m sure there are some.

4. MotorStorm Looks Good

Somebody get this guy a Wii to shut him up, I’m ashamed to come from the same country. He says it looks dull. Whilst I enjoyed it, I have never heard anyone say MotorStorm is the sole reason to get a PlayStation. If it is, then I’d actually advise that you don’t get it. 

The fact is, this guy could say the same thing about any game if he wanted to, just by manipulating the situation like he has been doing. I think he wants to make spreadsheets more than he likes games. And that is fine.

5. Affordable Games

At this point, I really want to agree with him on at least one point out of pitty, but I don’t agree with morons. 

He obviously has no grasp on basic economics, since he thinks we have just ’shelled out £1 Billion’ on a new TV and Console. Personally, I think he needs to buy his electronics elsewhere, it appears he is being overcharged.

And no, PlayStation doesn’t get games 18 months after the Xbox does. Simply, no. The fact that he said it makes me want to gouge my eyes out and shove them up my anus. Or something.

6. It’s A Good Value Blu-Ray Player

It is, surely you can’t argue with this one Mr Self Indulgence. Oh wait, he can. “How can you assign value to something that might only be popular for 12 months? It also has competition — competition that looks like it might win this battle…” he says.

Stop! Take the monocle out and look at the facts, Blu-Ray won. Though i’ll let him have this one, at the very start, HD-DVD appeared more popular for a short while and this article is obviously a good year old.

7. SingStar and Online Content

He didn’t even bother making a point here, and he was right to do so. He shouldn’t have bothered with any of the points really.

But apart from the fact that SingStar is rather popular at parties and amongst teens, and that online content is immensely popular and beneficial, he might be on to something. No, wait, he’s not.

8. The PS3 Controller Might Get Its Rumble Back

And it did. Very bad at predicting, but also there are many reasons it didn’t have it in the first place.

15 year old technology? He says this as if it is bad, he is telling us he would rather use a PC and that is a good few years old too. Now, PC’s, Mac’s whatever, they are all old technology, great, but old. Old doesn’t mean bad. He should know that since he is saying that a PC (which is older) is better.

9. Your Old PS2 Games Will Work – Sort Of

Actually, I agree sort of. But I have played my games well on my own console, but I know that Sony dropped the hardware support and whatnot. Then again, I didn’t buy a PS3 to play PS2 games, I bought it for PS3 games. No one says you have to kill your PS2 as soon as the PS3 comes along. I have had both consoles living in happiness together for some time.

Also, Sony hadn’t dropped the hardware (over software) emulation when he wrote the article, and hardware emulation was great for me. 

10. Resistance: Fall of Man

“A FPS without a mouse. Super-dooper.” We get it, this guy likes to make sweet love to his computer every night because a woman won’t. And yes, FPS’s are sometimes better on a PC, but I’ve also had good experience with them on the PS3.

Also, I have Call of Duty 4 on PS3 AND PC, and prefer the PS3 version. A lot of people also did and also jumped on the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 (over the PC version which came out first). 

My Conclusion

I don’t usually call people idiots because of their opinions, but feel free to do so for me. The comments are also a good bit of read. It is funny how PS3 is pretty on top now and Blu-Ray is the winner.

I’m not bitter, you may think my article was unfair, but I can assure you I don’t necessarily hate or dislike this man, just his opinions. Debates are good and fun, and one day I hope to argue some points that aren’t complete idiocy in word form.
