Whilst Valve have previously criticised the console for it’s architecture, now they’re just saying that they need new people to code for it. Talking to Joystiq at a Left 4 Dead 2, Doug Lombardi said;
‘we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well.’
Nice of them to see sense – ignoring a market so large would be a stupid mistake. So could this mean Left 4 Dead 2 PS3? Well, probably not, though we suppose a late port could be possible. Left 4 Dead 3 PS3, however, is much more likely.
The EU PS Blog says that VidZone has been updated, adding 500 songs and some playlists. The songs include Chaka Khan, Freemasons, Grizzly Bear, Maximo Park, and a load more. The new playlists are BBQ Music, just in time for Summer, 90’s, Metal Anthems and Dizzee Rascal, for some reason. Great stuff, go check it out (if you’re in the EU).
Battlefield 1943 will release on PSN next week on the usual day. It’s downloadable, it’s pretty damn beautiful and it’s certainly looking great in most areas. Destructible buildings, planes, what’s not to like? Plus, you know, Battlefield for £10. See the press release at VG247.
I first heard the name CellFactor about 4 years ago, and watched a whole bunch of videos showcasing incredible visuals and physics. Back then, the concept of using both guns and psychic ability’s was still fresh, and with an online component the game seemed to hold promise enough to surpass the likes of Halo. Unfortunately, that was back then. Years later Ubisoft got there hands on the title which was originally made by Immersion Games, and what I ended up buying was a mere shadow of what was originally shown.
A pretty hefty update for the European PlayStation Store this week, including the full version of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, lots of Tiger Woods stuff, the Sacktue of Liberty, and more downloadable full games than you can sack a sackboy at!
“One of the things we are really excited about Front Mission is piloting the Wanzer but also the on foot missions. Connecting with your pilot, Dylan, is important so you’ll have the experience of getting out and doing missions you can’t do in a giant Wanzer, only as a person. There is a really cool sense of scale in the game when you see a bullet the size of this room flying at you when you’re healing gives you an idea of what it’s like piloting a Wanzer, and there is some really cool gameplay effects we can do with that.”
“The multiplayer experience is definitely a separate experience. What we are meaning to do with that is to make it team-based – very very team friendly. So you can form up with friends, create a team and customise your team in a way you really want to. I won’t go into the online experience very much but, ok I’m going to be the sniper, you’re going to be the heavy hitter, you’re going to be the support… it allows you to develop strategy.”
Evan Wells, co-president of Naughty Dog, has said that a release date for Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves will be announced ‘very soon’, says Eurogamer. There’ll also be another multiplayer demo before it’s released, though the time frame hasn’t been finalised, which will have a much wider selection; ’so if you missed the last one I don’t think you’ll have any problem getting in this one.’ In addition, he also gave a lot of other details involving the multiplayer and singleplayer, which you can see below…
ShopTo.net have told Eurogamer that DJ Hero is going to be very expensive. The RRP is £107.99 with the peripheral, though they’re selling it for £94.85, whilst HMV are selling for £99.99. Obviously, this is a ridiculous price, especially since Guitar Hero 3 launched at £69.99.
However, what’s even more annoying is that those American people we always hear about get it for $120, which is somewhere around £70. As always, we lovely British people get ripped off, which is made even worse by this wonderful recession we’re trapped in the middle of. Do you think it’s worth £100 to pretend to be a fake musician?
The emotion engine is the CPU chip in PS2s and the first backwards compatible PS3s. It essentially enables the playing of PS2 games. So, if Sony patent emulation of this emotion engine, it logically leads to speculation that PS2 backwards compatibility is on it’s way to a PS3 near you, via firmware updates.
Exciting news, but we don’t know for sure if we’re going to get any bc-goodness any time soon, if at all. However, feel free to speculate in the comments.
Droplitz has been released on the US PSN store today. Yes, that’s something released onto PSN on a Monday. We’re shocked too.
What we’re not shocked about, though, is that it hasn’t made it’s way onto the EU PSN yet, so it looks like we’ve got a wait ahead of us – at least until Thursday, presumably. It’s all about rotating and matching dials to save things called Droplitz. Go read about it on the US PS Blog.
Looks to be general Harry Potter game fayre, really. Whether or not it’ll be good remains to be seen. And yes, the news well is pretty dry lately, so we’re posting trailers for Harry Potter.
inFAMOUS is going to get a Home space, says the official US PS blog. There are no other details, but there will be next week. Go through the link to see some random figures concerning the game, such as how many cans of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi Sucker Punch consumed during it’s development time, which are amusing, and to see a walkthrough video of the mission Titanic Beatdown with commentary from Darren Bridges, the game’s designer.
We’ll give you the info as soon as we know what it is.
You might’ve seen reports of PS3 firmware 3.0 details floating around the internet. These reports said that the firmware will release before Christmas and was a ‘huge overhaul’ to the XMB, comparing it to 306’s NXE in that respect.
The updates promised for the firmware were a reputation system, a griefing reporting system, simultaneous sound output through HDMI and digital optical cable and, the most interesting of the promised additions, background downloading of game patches. We want that one.
The origin of the rumour was VG247, who ended the article with an arrogant ‘Just remember where you heard it first’. Joystiq contacted SCEA, who proceeded to say ‘Those rumors are completely untrue, nothing has been announced or confirmed for upcoming PlayStation firmware, and this is just wild speculation.’ So it’s untrue.
Of course, that’s exactly what you might expect Sony to say, but there you go. Let’s just cross our fingers for background downloading of patches, eh?
As many of you probably already know by now, the king of pop, Michael Jackson, passed away this evening after suffering cardiac arrest. It’s a loss of the music industry, and the world, that will be felt for years.
We offer this small dedication to a wonderful artist, courtesy of LittleBigPlanet.
